Origin

 In 2021, Nickson and Michael partnered with Commission Mankind, an NGO dedicated to drilling boreholes and providing clean, accessible water across Kenya. Together, they served countless villages, undertaking long and often challenging journeys to bring life-changing resources to entire communities.

It was during one of these adventurous road trips that the idea for Undugu Safaris was born. The name “Undugu,” meaning “brotherhood” in Swahili, perfectly captured their vision of connection, community, and shared adventure. The moment the name came to mind, it felt like destiny—they knew this was their new dream.

And so, Undugu Safaris began, inspired by the spirit of service, exploration, and a deep love for Africa’s people and landscapes. Today, that same passion drives everything we do, as we welcome guests from all over the world to experience the magic of Tanzania.

What does UNDUGU mean?!

The name UNDUGU came to Nickson and Michael through a simple yet powerful idea: family. Family, in its shared and connected nature, inspires us to welcome and guide those who dream of an African adventure. Traveling across the world is a big decision, and who better to journey with than someone who feels as close as family?

In key Swahili, Undugu means:

Brotherhood—a state of being family or like family.
